Background

Mr. Afonso joined Fernandes Hearn LLP as an associate lawyer after being admitted to the Ontario Bar.

Mr. Afonso completed placements in both government and the private sector, including articling at one of Toronto's largest litigation boutiques where he gained experience in all aspects of civil litigation. Through these placements, Mr. Afonso has worked on disputes heard before private mediators, arbitrators and all levels of Ontario courts, including the Ontario Court of Appeal.

In his undergraduate studies Mr. Afonso was awarded several scholarships for academic achievement and graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto. In law school, Mr. Afonso focused on courses related to domestic and international dispute resolution and served as a research assistant for the war crimes prosecutors at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
